“And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” Mark 10:16
When you lift a child in an embrace and then run swiftly, there is such joy in expedience- almost a game, definitely a delight. As the child grows, the expediency diminishes, at least in so far as getting to where we want to go. We implore ways and means to direct, to guide, to encourage, to inspire—just to move. All who have loved a child come to the day when the child can no longer be swept up and lifted forward in a close embrace.
We are big people, and yet we are within God’s embrace, drawn forward in His saving grace. In the quiet that comes in Holy Week, may we allow God’s embrace to wrap us up in His will, may we bound forward inspired within the journey of Lent toward a spring ripe with learning.
Prayer:
Father God, lift us up, keep us close in your embrace as we reach the last week of this year’s journey. Amen
